Yet again apologiesfor my photographic skills...or lack of them, I should say! It's much crisper than this in the flesh.

A lovely atmospheric painting Fiona, the wall and hedgerow in the foreground and the view into the distance are very well done. I think the old tin mine ruins make the Cornish landscape look a bit drab, I much prefer the tree!

Good feeling of depth in this one Fiona, as Christine has already commented, the foreground hedge is very well painted. Are you enjoying painting in oils as well?

this is beautiful :-) like a photograph, crisp and clean :-) perfect :-) i like the fields too :-)

I agree with Christine and Stephen, you have caught the feeling of distance so well in this and your loosely painted foreground is perfect. It's a while since I used my oils, I use the alkyd ones, you've spurred me on to get them out again as soon as I get some free time.

Great painting Fiona

Agree with what's already been said Fiona - great depth, lovely soft colours and the foreground hedge looks so natural. And so different from your watercolours - I had to look to see if this Fiona was indeed you!

Great recession here and good sensitive palette. Mine? What mine?

Tree or tin mine - it doesn't matter as this is a delightful painting.

I like tiny white parts in foreground. Really impressive piece Fiona.

So, you chickened out on the mine, eh? Not to worry - I'm prepared to bet most of us have done much the same sort of thing - from conveniently removing a cliff to accidentally shifting a church spire. When I was painting a lighthouse, I so nearly turned it into something else - persisted, like a good, brave boy, but drove myself cross-eyed doing it. A common problem is that one just doesn't have enough information - especially with a photograph; or worse still, just that tiny bit too much. Better to go and sketch it from life; take the photo for added information, but work basically from the sketch: it's always likely to work out better. But you couldn't, as you've forgotten where it is! So well done for rescuing the situation = a good, clean, fresh painting, the foreground colours in particular are well painted and you've chosen the right palette. Per ardua ad astra!

Thanks very much everyone for commenting on what I thought was a disaster. If anyone is disapointed about there not being an old mine wheelhouse, if look hard enough you can just see it through the tree branches.....thanks again.

PS - got that gorse right, too, I see!

Were you in the RAF Robert? If I've got the gorse right Robert, it's down to you. Thank you very much for your help and advise.

Really lovely painting Fiona

There's not much to add to what has already been said except that I'm really impressed with the way you've so clearly shown the distance involved. You really are storming ahead with the oils and evidently enjoying them.

As Carol has said, what more can be added other than keep going!

Many thanks Petra, Carol and Gudrun for your continued support...to be honest I don't know how the far distance happened......a happy accident I think!

A lovely gentle landscape Fiona. I like the contrast of the textured foreground plants against the softer and quieter passages of background.

Thank you very much Julie, much appreciated.

You're a revelation, Fiona - your works are always so fresh and chameleonic. This is lovely - mellow, sunny and tranquil.

Very nice sense of distance and very appealing too Fiona . Best wishes :)

Thank you both very much.

The title should read 'Cornish Tin Mine Ruin' however, I attempted to paint in the ruin twice and each time, it just didn't look right. So it's a tree now! It's from a photo I took years ago and couldn't tell you exactly where it is. Done with Artisan oils on board16"x12".
