PS. As I have mentioned, I can't draw for toffee so I cheated on the wheels and traced them....naughty, naughty!!!

A different style for you Fiona but it looks good.

It looks more than good Fiona -- I think its bl--dy amazing ---- and don't forget there are 1000s of pro artists out there who trace just to save time when trying to make a living ---- Tell you what aah kid you may have traced the wheels but I think you have made a better job on the rest of the machine ---- all the best --- chas

What a lovely painting Fiona. The colours are absolutely beautiful!

Great subject Fiona which you've turned into a super painting!

Charming painting Fiona, it isn't unloved - I love it!

Thank you Stephen. Charles....you've made my day, not only is it okay to cheat, you like it too!! Thank you very much for your comment Catherine, the colours I used were; U. marine, Venetian red, Vandyke brown, Lemon yellow and B. sienna. Tied together with black and red ink. Thanks Debs and Christine....glad you love it!

Lovely painting Fiona, nice composition

It's not unloved because you wanted to put it on paper and what a beautiful result! It's very well drawn and the colours are just right. Well done!

I don't think there is a problem with tracing your image. If like me, it is the painting you enjoy, you don't want to labour for ages over the drawing and find your initial enthusiasm has drained because you can't get the drawing right!! This is a lovely study - there is just something so appealing about old, neglected and decaying machinery.

Hi Fiona, this is indeed a stunning work. I really, really love it. Unusual subject and perfectly executed! I am glad you like the Rotring Artpen, but remember, it is NOT lightfast, but it is great to work with, I totally agree!!! :) Mia

There's something about an old tractor, is'nt there? \lovely work.

Lovely work Fiona. You never know I just might spot it at the side of the road in the next couple of weeks :)

Thank you everyone for leaving such wonderful comments. The next time I walk past him, I'll tell him that you all think he's a handsome old thing. Thanks again.

Nothing at all wrong with tracing - no it's not naughty - if similiar methods (camers obscura etc) were good enough for the great masters (Canaletto et al) then they are good enough for me. Lovely piece Fiona

Have just seen this Fiona, so, rather late in the day (or early in the morning) I wanted to add my compliments. This is a wonderful painting of a truly evocative subject and you're so versatile - from Alan's landscapes to this which is so different, and all so well painted.

Beautiful picture Fiona, really well done.

Thank you so much Michael, Jane, Pete..... you give me a real boost to know that you like my picture, and reasurance that it's okay to trace! I think that's why I prefer landscapes because more often than not I don't do any drawng at all, only a line where I want the horizon, it's usually straight in with the bush! Thanks again.

Unusual subject for you, but beautifully done. You're turning these out faster than I can keep up! But, keep it up! I really enjoy looking out for your postings but must confess, I nearly missed this one. Well done, Fiona.

I had to give it a go Lionel, he sits there, all by himself, in all weathers......I feel sorry for him. I would soon get bored painting the same sort of subject time after time. I like to swap about, it keeps my enthusiasm fresh! Thank you very much Lionel, it means a lot when you give me your opinion.

Fiona, As always you are a hero of mine on this site. I love the way you tackle everything with gusto and bring it off successfully. Thanks for your encouraging comments on my work too. All the best.

What a lovely thing to say Jamie, you'll make me blush, thank you very much. I feel much the same about other artist myself....you included. You also have the ability to be able to paint any subject with atmosphere and emotion......I loved your warehouse paintings.

A delightful and charming piece, Fiona!

Many thanks Seok.

Sorry to be a bit tardy in repsonding. I felt I had to think about the "to trace or not to trace". As Michael says, old masters used methods of expediency, as do professional artists. I personally prefer to draw because I feel it maps the image in my brain, so hopefully the paint will be applied more instinctively ... that is the hope! I also find a personal satisfaction in creating the drawing. However, that debate aside, your tractor makes me smile, even though it is a neglegted piece of machinery, waiting for some attention!

Very nice, lovely colours no overworking here.

Pen & wash of a forgotten work horse, left where it stopped, on the verge at the edge of the township. I've walked by it so many times and thought it would make a good pen & wash subject. Quite a detailed picture for me really. Thank you Mia for the tip re 'Rotring' art pens, smashing to use. 12" x 9" jacksons paper, Old Holland watercolours.
