I am surprised at your criticism of this Fiona, I think it works well, it's light and cheery. The only suggestion would be to move the church (which is well drawn and painted) a little to the right. I also like the way you have handled the tall grasses / rushes in the foreground.

I really like this one Fiona, especially the movement you've captured in the sky and the rushes in the foreground. Very well done I'm suprised you're not keen on it, I think it's very good.

Thank you very much Stephen, Debs....I think it's because it looks washed out. It's larger than A4 and doesn't fit in the scanner, so took a photo of it and I think it's lost some of it's depth. I might scan it anyway and see what the result is, but it might crop too much off. I'll post the result if it's an improvement. Thanks again for looking.

This is great, Fiona, but I saw the scanned/cropped version first. I really like this picture, but if you are going to give it another go, then I would lighten the background trees slightly. They are a fraction too dark, but beautifully painted.

Its a super painting but do have another go Fiona - would love to see a different interpretation of the scene

Many thanks Lionel, if I do give it another go I think I'll do something completely different.......daring even??!! Thank you for your comment Michael, I've got lots of ideas buzzing already!

Hope I'm not adding to the confusion, just some additonal thoughts. If you move the Church tower to about a third in from the left, it would be more balanced. Also if you moved the trees behind the church ithey would frame it. Hope you don't mind me suggesting this.

A more muted version, with a more subtle atmosphere, but it's a lovely piece too.

A lovely painting Fiona, cannot add to what anyone else has said, not that gifted in landscapes. It looks a well balanced setting to me.

Stephen thank you for your suggestion, I appreciate the time you have taken over your thoughts on the picture. I start off trying to use the thirds rule, but the thought must be getting lost around about my elbow on the way from my brain, to the brush!! :) Many thanks Seok and Glennis for your comments.

St. Andrew's church at Sempringham is on the site of a former Abbey, where St. Gilbert of Sempringham formed the Gilbertine monastic order in 1131. It was also the home of the last Welsh princess for her entire life, she died at the age of 54. Beautiful church, but not keen on my painting of it. Might have another go, but a close up view.
