Approaching storm

Approaching storm

I'm no expert on oils, having never used them, but this looks good to me! I can feel that approaching storm. It's really atmospheric.

Like this a lot, could have foled me about no expert in oils Fiona, anyway also works for me and cetainly generates the atmosphere you intended, well done .

I like this painting, Fiona; it has just the right amount of "gloominess" (is there such a word?), heralding the storm. It certainly would not be wasted on a canvas. Incidentally, you may wish to consider trying canvas board. It is quite inexpensive and, in my opinion, works quite well. You can also cut it to whatever size frame you might have.

Beautiful soft brush strokes. I agree with above comments.

This is a very atmospheric painting, Fiona. I like it very much, although I am not an oil person.

I agree with the above comments, lovely painting Fiona

Thank you all very much for your encouragement and comments. Lionel, 'gloom' is the effect I was trying to get, I think it could have been even 'gloomier'.

It's a lovely painting, Fiona. The atmosphere is really super and I really like the sky. If you don't mind a small suggestion, the bluish bushes in the background - if you soften the edges a bit and blend them into the sky, it might yield a better effect of recession.

Like this one, loads of atmosphere. Well done Fiona

I like it, especially the gloomy colours very natural, very atmospheric.

Thank you Seok, Charles & Kevin......you are very kind. Seok, thank you for your advice re the background trees, I thought they could have been a little paler as well, what do you think?

I like your loose expresive strokes here Fiona and a great sky too.

I really like this one, Fiona, my kind of sky! Having browsed your gallery I think you have wonderfully wide range of subjects and styles that you can be proud of. The texture you have in this one and the delicacy of your watercolours do you credit, well done. Thanks also for your kind comments on Lindisfarne Castle in my gallery.

I really like this picture and the mood it's captured.

Haven't posted a painting for a while....my excuse, a large garden! I managed to do this one over the last few days, I don't think I've done this kind of landscape in oils before. Very interested to hear your views on it, I might have another shot at something similar. It's done on fairly thick card primed with a couple of coats of gesso, I didn't want to waste a canvas!!
