reminds me of your heathers! I think the foreground is good, definately doesn't need cropping. Big skies look good on landscape sized paintings but personally I always like your format with less sky and more foreground, as in your poppy field. Whatever you feel like is best so long as the horizon isn't half way up the paper which I think doesn't usually work.

Well. believe it or not, I actually like this format, Fiona. Cropping is most definitely NOT required. If I have any quibble it is that the smallness and calmness of the stream is at odds with the robustness of the waterfall. Make the bend in the stream less of a right angle and widen the stream slightly as approaches the viewer.

Please Louise NOT the heathers again, I couldn't go throught another heather saga!Lol. It didn't even occur to me to look at the whole composition in a technical way Lionel, ie your suggestion re; the fall of the water and the calmness of the stream. I ought to think about what I'm about to put on the paper more before I commit myself. My trouble is, I have no patience. Thank you for your tips and support.

A beautiful piece as it is.. If you do want to crop it, Iwill do at the bend of the stream. Your brushstrokes are very nice.

oops, sorry, I promise never to mention the "h.........." word again. unfortunately when I see the name Fiona here I just can't help thinking of that "h..........". Never again, promise !:}

Definitely does not need cropping. It's a nice composition and the water is very well done.

Leave the foreground as it is lovely and the dark of the vegetation pushes the rest of the painting back, which is good. I agree about the stream - perhaps a little calm for all that turbulent water rushing thought the wall, but it may well have been just like that - in which case ignore me. Another lovely, loose watercolour.

The foreground balances it I think Fiona. Lovely painting of the waterfall.

From a photo taken years ago whilst walking on Dartmoor. It started off okay but by the time I got to the foreground I lost my way....too much foreground again Lionel!! Might look better cropped below the rocks?
