Love the rusty roof, Dixie and the gappy doors and windows. These old barns are few and far between, I've seen a few renovated along the Hereford road and the Magpie villages, Weebly, Kington and Knighton. Smashing work.

Good one Dixie, I do like the deep shadows under the roof.

Thank you Bob, Carole and Tessa. Carole are still quite a few around the Chilterns sone still used by the farmers . The National Trust has quite a few on there land and the farms they own , all kept in good order and used for storage of machinery etc. Unfortunately some of the privately owned are left to fall down , occasionally they are converted into houses , there are a lot of them that were converted in the 1970 to 2000 era but it seems to have slowed down.

Looks ready to collapse Paul. Good painting.

Really well painted Paul.

Really well painted Paul I really like the rich red rusty roof!

Excellent work Paul, really good colour palette and the shadows are great.

Smashing painting Paul.

A characterful old barn, Paul. Love the contrast of the rich roof colour with the rest of the building.

Thanks for you comments I really appreciate them, Christine, Stephen, Sarah, Spencer Andrew, Denise and Jenny . It was the contrast of the roof colour and the faded grey of the wood that attracted me Jenny , it’s become far more dilapidated over the last year .

Really nice, love the shadows

I agree with George, really good Paul

Good work, Paul - lovely rusty old roof!

Thank you Tanja I appreciate your kind comment.

Lovely old characterful barn Paul……just love that roof!

Thanks Fiona , I’ve been watching this old barn deteriorate over the last twenty or more years . I did a couple of sketches a good ten years ago , but I have to say the roof colours are what finally tempted me to do a painting.

I love the shades in the roof.

Thank you Elaine, I can’t resist attempting to paint rusty metal as they always show such beautiful colours as they rust away.

Love it, very charming!

What a great painting, I love that red rusting roof Paul. Lovely work.

23x36 cm watercolour of a old barn at Drayton Beauchamp . I have observed this old barn deteriorating over many years and have often thought of doing a painting. I took some photos last year, last week as I was passing by I did a couple of very basic sketches . I just love the colours and the history behind these old buildings often it nor well know or record but the imagination and knowledge of the countryside helps to build a possible history.

I have sketched most of my life on and off I became interested in watercolour following a spinal injury whilst in hospital but did not follow it up. My eldest daughter bought me a beautiful wooden box set of half pans about twenty five years ago I dabbled on and off until retirement twelve years…
