This is fantastic, Diana. Super view point, great painting!

What a great self portrait, a perfect example of watercolour painting.

Didn't even have to look at the artists name, lovely work.

Great portrait, Diana, I knew it was yours.

Brilliant Diana, wonderful pose and confidently executed. I have had six attempts at doing a selfie, found it very difficult, you have my admiration.

Excellent self portrait Diana !

Thank you Mia. My son says I look like I’m being mugged. .. Thank you Stephen I enjoyed this and was surprised that it was finished ( well almost) in a morning. Thank you Thalia I wanted something amusing. Thank you Annick and CJ Jones. It’s strange having yourself looking at you from an easel. Thank you Cesare. I must take my style into most pieces now. Thank you Fiona. I do cheat though. I use tracedown paper to make sure I have the features in the right place. Thank you Richard. The hand is s bit corpse like but it was that colour 😄

Sometimes I just can't believe my lack of knowledge but there again, I lead a sheltered life..LOL I hadn't heard of tracedown paper and have just googled it. It looks like a handy piece of kit and perfect for getting the features in the right place. Your portrait is a very good watercolour painting and I do like your 'thinking' pose. Like Fiona, I've recently been struggling with a self portrait. We've had that condition known as 'Selfitis' .. :) Now I feel worse after seeing you super painting and comparing it to my own dismal effort. Jealous? Moi? .. well yes!! Seriously though, it is a good portrait and I shall probably keep egging Fiona on and trying myself!!

Amazing characterful selfie Diana, I love how you’ve managed such a likeness with your face screwed up like that! You don’t like to make life easy do you!!

I think this is fantastic, Diana - love the pose and just all the colours you have used in this watercolour which is so hard in a portrait. The glasses are great, as is the watch.

Such a natural pose which you haven’t tried to glamorise Diana. Just love the wonderful palette and everything about it.

Oh this is brilliant Diana!

Super portrait Diana, the foreshortening on the hand is so good, hands are hard enough to draw anyway!

Fabulous portrait Diana.

I recognised it straight away as you, Diana. It’s fabulous.

Thank you Louise. I found painting myself less stressful than another person as not to bothered about the likeness and less pressure. I think the tracing and getting proportions right is a good foundation and boosts confidence. I’m finding that I can draw more accurately freehand now from so much observation in general. I was fascinated with the colours in the glass. I could have been braver and added more . Morning Maureen and thank you. There are so many colours you don’t expect to see when you really observe. The glasses alone had so many tones in them. I wasn’t sure about the watch. It’s important in the composition but not too detailed to distract. Hello Carole. Thank you. I think the pose is a reflection of how I feel when I look in the mirror these days. Going down the humour road is the way to go. Thank you Russell, I’m delighted you think so. Very motivated too. Morning Stephen. Thank you again. I do get help with the basic drawing from tracing when I paint portraits. I enjoy drawing freehand in many pieces but I’m impatient when I’ve a painting in mind and want to start as quickly as possible. Thank you very much Sylvia and Gudrun. I wanted to paint a very unflattering portrait of myself that described the feeling on looking in a mirror. This is a sort of half way mark 😁

It certainly made me smile, the "warts and all" portrait. When you paint yourself you can be as unflattering as you like, I know I've recoiled when I've painted myself! The interesting thing is the nuances you can find , the colours you find when you really look. Mind you, Diana, little Winnie has the edge!

Morning Marjorie. Thank you. I think warts and all is the way to go. She certainly adds character. Winnie has her fresh, unblemished, beautiful little face. Well that’s full of character too It’s innocence and joy of discovery.

You have a brilliant knack of painting the unusual Diana, a really interesting portrait!

This was brave, Diana, to tackle it from such an unusual, less than flattering, angle! It's very effective, though. (I use tracedown paper all the time, to transfer my compositions - and sometimes copy images - to my expensive watercolour paper, couldn't live without it!)

This is absolutely brilliant, amazing. Well done.

Morning Carole and thank you . I don’t consciously look for original subjects but I do enjoy seeing objects from different viewpoints. Thank you Jenny. I’m pleased to read that you are a fan of tracedown too. I have plans for an even less flattering self portrait but will need to be brave to go public. Hello Fred and thank you. I hate looking in mirrors these days but rather like this portrait.
