The Wherry 'Albion'

I do like this, David. Very simple but beautifully painted. Lovely dark on the hull, which you have kept from being too dense. Well done!

A lovely painting of the Albion with plenty of movement. May I just say, knowing this Wherry very well and having had sailed on her, that the mast could do with being a little bit taller and the boom and sail alittle bit bigger. The boom of the Albion reaches almost to the back of the cabin where the helm is and of course that the real Albion's sail is black. When the mast is lowered to go under bridges, it hangs over the stern of the boat by about two feet, That may help with sizing your masts, but its still a great painting and my comment is just a little bit of nit-picking which I hope will be useful for you to know to use in the future.

Hi, Jorja. I'm glad you recognised the Albion. Are you a member of the Norfolk Wherry Trust ?. I should have known better here as I too chartered the Albion for a day, about 15 years ago, I have also built a scale model of this wonderful boat.. In my defence of the sail colour I did not want the sail to compete with the black of the hull. Also I believe that the sails, which started of white were originally treated with a fish oil, which gave them a reddish colouring. Anyway, thanks again for the comments.

This was a quick excersise to work out a 'pose' for the Wherry, which I hope to include as part of a larger painting. I have cropped it in portrait format as I quite liked the diagonal composition formed by the sail.
