This is really, really nice, David. The colours in the boat are magic. The mountains are restrained but clearly defined and I like the way you have faded the little house out so as not to detract from the boat. Very good reflections and suggestion of water. Your best painting so far in my humble opinion. Thank you for your comments on Inch House.

Thanks for the nice comments Thea. I'm hoping to paint a second version of The Butchers Arms over the wekend, taking into account your earlier comments.Oh, and I now have a Charles Reid DVD and one of his books, magic.

I had a look at your gallery and I like it very much. This is my favourite. Especially the way you leave great parts of the page blanc and on the other hand, put rather strong colours on the main subjectparts. It gives such a depth to your work, beautiful!!!

Which book have you got, David? CR has written eight and I have managed to buy all eight. Some of them are out of print now, but are so worthwhile getting. Did you get Watercolour Masterclass? After seeing this DVD, I bought some Da Vinci Maestro brushes and they are out of this world - super sharp point, but hold loads of water. Just what you need for this style of painting. Look forward to seeing version 2 of The Butchers Arms. I have a boat one on the go with foreground figures again - not sure how it will go.

The book I have ,Thea, is Watercolour Secrets, and the DVD is Watercolour Landscape Masterclass. I use Kolinsky Sable brushes(4 & 8) plus a No.12 Sable Blend, all from Rosemary & Co. I have looked at the Da Vinci Maestro but they are somewhat pricey ; maybe I'll splash out on one. My main problem is getting my pans to the consistency that Charles uses. I paint between 1 & 3 times a week and try to spritz the pans every day, but I never seem to be able to pick up sufficient colour on the point to get that rich flow of colour that he achieves. Any tips !. In the meantime I look forward to seeing your finished boat.

Painted from a sketch made from a photograph I took some years ago on a holiday in Eire.
