April, Ranmore Common, Surrey by David Monk
I painted this 16x12" study in Artisan oil using a watercolour sketch combined with digital photo as a reference. I have tried to give an impression of the dappled light in a beech wood in April when the light green leaves are opening and the bluebells light up the ground below the trees. It is probably a rather hackneyed subject but I never fail to be moved by it when I walk in the Surrrey beech woods in the spring. I tend to work quickly with large hog brushes. This was executed in a couple of hours.
