November, Ranmore Surrey by David Monk
This was painted in Jacksons artist quality oils last autumn in the same woodland as the spring painting previously posted. The colours are very vivid in early November (in a normal year!) so I did not spare the reds and golds. I usually try to capture this type of woodland scene with some bright dappled sunshine otherwise it can seem quite dull. In this case the reference was a pencil sketch and a few digital photos but I have moved around, added and deleted various features to help the composition. Quite a lot of the painting resulted from memory since photos never do justice to colours and tonal values. I considered putting in a figure at the end of the path but decided there was enough interest in the composition already
