Daybreak over the City by David Monk

Quick sketches are supposed to be crude and unfinished, aren't they, David? I love the colours of this, and when I looked at it with half closed eyes it really comes to life and looks great (just because the details give way to a better overview - not because I can't see your painting!) Will you use this to do a larger, finished version? And then post it here?

wow :-) you have made it look so much more beautiful than what it truly is :-) beautiful sky :-) not a crude painting at all, it is beautiful :-)

I understand your inspiration - I was once so inspired by the pink sky of Dawn, with the reflection in the Thames, that i took a photo and then went back to bed (in the Tower Hotel). Well done for your tenacity. Your efforts have really paid off. It looks like a much bigger painting and does not suffer for lack of detail. Lovely!

I love the views os the city from across the Thames. I think the loose style works really well here and captures the dawn. I wouldn't say it was crude, just impressionistic. Plein air forces one to speed up I find.

You have captured the atmosphere perfectly. There isn't a better sky anywhere than on the Thames in the early morning or evening. I used get off my bike and stop and and look at the Thames on my way to work sometimes.Well done.

A little 6x8 inch oils sketch done quickly one chilly morning from the south bank of the Thames looking across at the City skyline with Gherkin etc. It is a bit crude and unfinished but I was inspired by the spectacular eastern sky over the silhouette of the City.
