Carol this is a little gem as it is. However you have bravely asked for comments and the only point which strikes me is that that the water does not seem to lie very flat. You could try adding a few reflections in the water from the far bank which might help to give better recession. If painting it again you could bring the far bank lower in the frame so that it lies behind the foreground grasses on the right hand side - this would also help with balance.

I agree with Michael Carol. It is always a problem when there are so many greens. Another little suggestion would be to bring that right hand tree forward a little by slight darkening of the branches and some spots of deeper tone green in the tree. Please this is only my view, I am no good at landscapes! This is far better than I could do ;o)

I have the same problem that Michael is describing Carol, about not getting the water to quite lay flat. I always go for the reflection technique. He's also right about it being a little gem, you have done an excellent job on the tones on the rocks.

Thank you Michael, Carole and Fiona for your useful comments. I have taken the advice on board but haven't decided whether to make the suggested changes or have another go at the same picture and try to incorporate these ideas. Pleased you like the rocks Fiona- I must admit I thought they were the best bit of the whole picture.

This is a replacement posting.I re-photographed the original painting as the white surround in the the first photograph was blue instead of white. The painting is based on one of my photos which I think is in the Tarn Hows area of the Lake District.. I'm not sure if all the greens look realistic -comments and criticism would be welcome
