Don't think you need much practice - works really well Carol

I'm doing the same Carol, practicing snow scenes! I like the composition Carol, my only suggestion would be to strengthen the shadows of the trees.....I'm no expert mind.

Goodness Michael -your comment was a very welcome shock to the system -thank you. Thank you Fiona -same old story not bold enough with the shadows!! the story of my life in painting. You are certainly more of an expert than I am!!

Carol, this is how much of an expert I am; I did a wooded snow scene last year some time, and I didn't even bother to put shadows in at all!! I posted it and someone very kindly pointed out the fact and brought it to my attention! Lol! Derrrrrrr!!! I even did a painting of a windmill in the distance of fenland scene, wasn't until I posted it that I realised I hadn't painted the sails in.......so you've got some catching up to do to be as bad as me!!

Fiona -I love your tales of so-called disasters BUT you have produced some wonderful paintings in the past year -I have been following your gallery fairly closely and you have advanced so much. I get the impression that you get more opportunities to paint than I do, which reinforces the fact that practice is the key thing. I wouldn't even contemplate trying to do a windmill yet - sounds much too complicated to me. Don't you dare decide to challenge me to do one!!!!!!!!!

No I wouldn't challenge you to do a windmill Carol....but the one I did was way off in the distance so it was only a immpression of one, not too much detail. Except that it was very noticable that the sails were nowhere to be seen! You are very kind about my pictures Carol, but you are right, practice pays off! I am really lucky that I can paint when I want to, all I need is the inspiration and the motivation....which I get lots of from this site and people like yourself. Thak you.

I like this Carol, I find snow scenes very difficult - you did a good job

Thanks for your comment Jenny. I've not tried any more snow scenes since this as they are rather difficult to do aren't they. However I've just seen the one on your gallery which I think is brilliant.

Thought I should start practising snow ready for the winter. This is on practice paper from a photo I took (in 1987) behind my house in the village. Not sure if it has worked -I think I need some guidance from the experts
