"French" should be in inverted commas here; this is a quick watercolour of part of the sitting room of a restored former barn which was our accommodation on a family holiday last year, near Torchamp in Normandie, made while I was waiting for everyone else to rise and begin the day. The furniture is original, if gathered from a whole spectrum of sources, but the wall panels are stained and distressed MDF, which didn't detract from the place's charm. I made a whole series of sketches and paintings on this break, more of which in the next few postings. An interesting light, casting shadows around and about, plus the reflected sheen of light bouncing off the polished furniture made the scene worthy of capturing.
