Abbeydale Hamlet, Sheffield
Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is a restored 18th century group of Grade I and II industrial buildings, formerly the site of crucible steel-making and now a museum where working practises and the way of life during the industrial revolution are re-lived periodically. Well worth a visit. I use it for trips with painting and sketching groups because it offers such a wealth of compositions and points of interest. (I will publish a composite drawing here in the next few days to show its breadth) I was attracted by this view of the entrance with light at the end of the tunnel and piercing through the foliage draped over the entry gates. The contrast of rich foreground mixtures against watery hints in earths, yellows and blues makes for an interesting counterpoint.
