You have created an image both historical and very textural. You can almost feel that whitewash covering. Love everything about this Bobbie.

Very nice pastel

I’m also liking that illusion of a textured wall - nice work!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. The illusion of texture has a lot to do with the tooth on the paper, which I've allowed to peep through. It definitely worked in my favour.

Nice work - the white walls are really effective.

I think you've done an excellent job Bobbie. I really like this. I can feel the solidity of the church building and the gravestones. Great!

Thank you Spencer, Andrew and Diane. I love landscape painting most of all, but when I arrived at Pilleth I was so excited to see a white church I just had to draw it. There is so much history there, including a mass grave from the 1402 battle in the churchyard - which apparently raged on the hillside all around the church.

I was out today with Friday Group painting en plein air at St Mary's Church, Pilleth where where Owain Glyndwr defeated Edmund Mortimer's English army in 1402, burning the church down in the process. A whitewashed church is quite rare, so I couldn't resist capturing it in soft pastels on Jacksons dark blue pastel paper.
