Looks great finished Brian, it looks so bright and fresh, I've got some of this paper, I've used it for all different mediums and it's not bad, you get what you pay for I suppose, 😀

Would love to walk that beach Brian. It has worked well. .

Thanks, Linda, for the kind reply and informative comments. Appreciated. It was interesting to see how this paper would work with pastels. I found it became a tad raggy with a few blending strokes and couldn't take much pastel before clogging up. I'd normally apply more layers but it wasn't having it. Nevertheless, it certainly wasn't bad and was definitely worth the money. *smile* Bri

Thank you very much, Sylvia, for the generous comment. Appreciated. It IS a lovely beach to walk. You can descend by the Marsden steps, walk virtually the entire length of the beach then ascend to the cliff tops by the famous Marsden Grotto steps or its lift. (pub) There are usually kittiwakes and fulmars everywhere, especially during the nesting season. Bri

Great pastel painting, Brian.

Wonderful finished result Brian. You've managed to capture both the sweep of the beach while giving quite a lot of the detail on Lot's wife.

Thank you very much, Ronald and Sandra, for the great comments. Much appreciated. The sea is much bluer in this photo than in real life, Sandra. My iphone is having a blue period. *smile* Thanks for the encouraging comments with the progression, and I'm pleased the arcing sweep of the beach came through. I think it needs more sea if I'm honest but maybe next time. Best to both Bri

You have achieved a great result Brian, that hugely expensive paper must have helped lol. I like the blue it pushes the eye into the lovely sweep of the beach.

Thank you very much for the kind comments, Barry, and the wry smile. The paper didn't exactly break the bank so I can't moan. *smile* I'm sorely tempted to try sandpaper, mainly because all the pastelliers I talk to heartily recommend it. Canson (reverse side) is my current favourite, but I'm still testing the waters, so to speak. (no pun intended) Bri

A beautiful pastel painting Brian.

The finished painting is superb Brian, your treatment of the rock face is so good as is the sand and stones. Beautiful work😃😃

Thank you, Val and Margaret, for the kind comments. Always appreciated. Thanks for sticking with it, Margaret, and thanks for the comments in WIP. Bri

Love your fresh colours.

What a lovely surprise! Thank you very much for the kind comments, Teresa. Much appreciated. Bri

Beautiful day and a lovely beach view Mike, very well done!

Thank you very much, Paul, for the kind comments. Much appreciated. Bri PS Sorry about the tardy response but I got to this very late. B

What a beautiful place and your painting looks great - lovely sense of distance and wonderful colours.

A fine painting Brian

Certainly does look like a pillar of salt. Colours great and I love the way you’ve got the differing shades in the sand to indicate dry to wet.

Brian this is a beautiful pastel painting, I like it a lot! Excellent work on the sand and surf and i really like your natural looking sky. Very nicely done! I do recommend you try sanded paper I believe that you will really like it once you try it. Fisher 400 paper is made in England and it is an excellent paper. I manage to get some through a supplier here in the US and really like it. It holds a lot of pastel and one can also put down an undercoat with watercolor, or liquify pastels with Terpenoid or alcohol. Have a go!

Sorry about the late response to these reviews but I've only just seen them. Thank you very much indeed Margaret, Barry, Toulla and Paul for the generous and supportive comments. Much appreciated. Great recommendation there, Paul. I'll try some in the not too distant future and if I end up with anything close to your standards I'll count myself lucky. *smile* I'm really chuffed you all liked this one. Best to all Bri

Pastel painting on Crawford and Black watercolour paper 39 x 27 cms. Lot's Wife is a remnant stack on the beach of Marsden Bay, South Shields. It always looks as thought it's about to collapse but the engineering report declares it as safe. I tried this paper because it was lying around doing nothing and I wanted the extra width. My Canson pastel paper is much better, but it isdesigned for watercolour and pastel. (horses for courses) Still, this paper wasn't bad.
