Fabulous colours, Brian. The size is perfect for the subject.

It's a stunner Brian and the colours are perfect. A great shape to work with.

That's brilliant, Brian. Love everything about it, including the format.

Thank you very much indeed, Seth, Alan and Lewis, for the highly encouraging comments. Always appreciated. The canvas size really does lend itself to a panoramic view of Skye. I had to fiddle with percentages to adjust the ratio from image to canvas, then added a touch more sky and sea to fill in the blanks; if that makes sense. I also used a mechanical drawing to fix certain critical points, then drew the rest by eye. I'm absolutely delighted that the colours are working. Best to all Brian

Wow.. stunning Brian. Really nice work. Colours are amazing and it really shines too.

Yay! Thanks, Rachel, for the super comments. Appreciated. I'm SO pleased the colours are working. Brian

Been out most of the day so trying to catch up and almost missed this, it's a beauty, lovely colours in the sky, a definite winner 😀

Very atmospheric Brian, all that hidden light in the sky, the eye is really drawn along. Love those colours too.

Thank you very much indeed, Linda and Marjorie, for the great comments. Always appreciated. I know what you mean about trying to catch up, Linda. I've been working on this and another LARGE painting at the same time, and it's taken up a lot of my time. Nearly finished the other one but I've just got to find a way to speed up. That and the World Cup. *smile* Thanks for mentioning the colours, Marjorie, and the spots of light spreading across the sky. They are more apparent in real life but I'm really pleased you noticed the effect. I think atmosphere is so important in a painting, especially in a seascape, where the palette can be limiting. Best to both and thanks again, Brian

Terrific sky Brian....it really does look like the roof of the world! I thought the same as Marjorie, the light dances in, out and through the clouds. Glad you sank the boat, good decision. Lol.

Thank you very much, Fiona, for one of your specials. Appreciated. *smile* "Glad you sank the boat, good decision." ......Laughed my socks off. I'm honestly really pleased the sky is working. Thanks for letting me know. Brian

Thank you very much indeed, Sandra, for the kind comment. Appreciated. Brian

So calm and serene, love it Brian.

Thank you very much, Carole, for the kind comments. Appreciated. Calm and serene does it for me. *smile* It was the calmness, serenity and colours that attracted me to this scene. Brian

You should be very pleased with this Brian, it's simply stunning! I love it! Such wonderful colours and I like the format too.

Thank you very much, Margaret, for the more than generous comments. Much appreciated. I'm really pleased you liked it, and especially pleased that you liked the format. I'll use this size canvas again. Brian

I can only agree with all comments Brian, this is simply a fabulous painting.

Thank you very much indeed, Russell, for the generous comments. Always appreciated. I'm really, really over the moon to see this one is working. Appreciate the nod. Brian

This is an oil on canvas 80 x 30cms. A friend of mine has been encouraging me to try different canvas sizes, and this is the result. It's essentially a wet in wet application. I started with a pencil sketch, then loosely washed some watered acrylic for an underpainting, then finished with oils. I read recently (might have been here) that watered acrylic produces micro-holes for oils to grip onto. I'll see if the paint starts to drop off later *smile*. There was a small boat sailing out to sea at first, but it seemed too much of a distraction, so it developed a hole and sank. I must admit to being quite pleased with this one.
