Victoria Cafe 2013
I came across this scene painted in 2013 of the Victoria Cafe in Weston-Super- Mare. It was one of my first attempts with water mixable oils and I remember being very disappointed in the result. My thoughts drifted to how I would paint the same scene now and thought about painting a new piece from scratch but then decided to overpaint the original. When I compared the two I was pleasantly surprised by the result and by how much my approach has changed. I feel the altered piece has a more dynamic quality and has much more energy which has been created by using stronger contrasts. I may still paint one from scratch which could provide another interesting comparison re composition and choice of colour palette. Would be interested in your views.
