Super work Barry, thought you were strictly a watercolour chap, so interesting to see this. Out of interest do you use a mixing medium?

Thank you Tessa, due to my inpatients I usually stick to watercolour but on occasion like to mix things up a bit. As far as mixing mediums are concerned I use mostly water but do use a bit of Artisan thinner when I am doing detail such as small tree branches.

Great work. The underpainting certainly gives the painting a nice warm glow.

Like the style of this Barry. It has a raw energy and lots of lovely warmth permeating through the whole scene. Looks completely finished to me and can’t see how you could improve upon it.

Lovely work Barry, great colours 😀

Thank you Brian, Carole and Linda it’s good to hear that others like the under painting showing through.

I like the composition, the colours in the sky, the tree, the little house. It’s also got a mysterious atmosphere which I love in a painting.

I agree with the previous comments, Barry: this is super. Love the composition and the depth in it.

Thanks for the insight Barry. I asked because I started using WS oils a few years ago as I started going to a class where the tutor insisted on them rather than the “ real thing”. I use a mixing medium to thin as I still find them a bit sticky, but recently have used more water. Still finding my way! Good work.

Beautiful colours and detail Barry, love the fine tracery of branches, also the colours in the sky.

Lovely fresh feel to this, Barry!

Thank you Janet , Mia, Tessa, Carole and Thalia for the support.

It's great Barry, I don't know how you can improve it as it looks finished to me!!

Beautiful scene Barry

Absolutely wonderful Barry!

Oh! Barry, I just love that.

Thank you Margaret, Dorothy, Fiona, Maureen and Mike as this is not my preferred medium your comments are very useful.

The composition, the colour balance and atmosphere is just lovely

First time airing for my water mixable oils this winter. A photo I took when out walking during a visit to my parents. I often use a burnt sienna mixed with a little red to prime my canvas board as I like letting some of it to show through on the completed work and I think it looks good in the sky here. Painting mainly in watercolour doesn’t leave much time for contemplation and I have probably put this on view before it is properly finished and it will no doubt be studied for a few weeks and maybe some changes made.

I started painting in 2004, I am influenced by Wesson, Seago and many of the great masters, more recently I enjoy the work of Steve Hall, John Hoar and Alvaro Castignet to name but a few. I paint in a loose style and try to simplify as I can. The medium I enjoy most is watercolour but dabble with…
