I like this a lot Barry, it couldn’t be anywhere else

There is a story in there...drama and atmosphere.

Thank you Karen and Timothy, probably a reflection of one of my favourite places.

Beautifully caught scene Barry, very reminiscent of John Yardley ( a man I admire for his ability to capture just such scenes) style work. Personally I'm imagining the characters in period costume and it sets my mind and imagination in motion.. Very good work.

Very good interior scene Barry. Had a week there some years ago, lovely location.

Thank you Jim, John Yardley was there the week before us and I would love to be able to match the well placed wonderful brush strokes he makes. Thank you Stephen I agree a lovely location with a good selection of tutors and well worth a visit.

You are very thoughtful Barry, I look forward to the rest of your work..... this is really striking work I like the quiet atmosphere with subtle light and shadow. Great contrasts always catch my eye.

Thank you Carole, I will post some of my efforts whilst with Amanda Hyatt as she encourages the use of strong darks to create good contrasts.

This is truly exceptional Barry, well done.

wonderful interior, Barry, great painting.

Thank you Alan and Cesare, it was a painting I really enjoyed painting but was extremely hard work.

Beautifully done. Love the way you have captured the light and shade.

Thank you Margaret, it worked well but I thought I had lost it on a few occasions.

A favourite area of mine, I love the Vale and walking the river great Plein-air venues stopped just around the corner from lotts cottage... Just great... This is very well done nice and atmospheric

Barry - This is fabulous! Nice to see you can create an interior to equal your exteriors.

Such drama and atmosphere here! I really envy you your courses! Yes as Jim says very reminiscent of John Yardley and also john Lidzey!

This caught my eye straight away, Barry. It’s beautiful.

Many thanks Alan, Skylar and Thalia. Love the walks when I’m there Alan. I’m doing a few more interiors now Skylar and hope I will improve with practice. Probably more Lidzey than Yardley as I was working wet in wet for a long time Thalia, the master Yardley would have achieved it with well placed single brush strokes.

Thank you Ellen always enjoy receiving your lovely comments.

Pure magic Barry, sounds as though you had a fabulous experience, if tiring.

Wonderful atmosphere and superb interior painting Barry. It sounds like you’ve had a great and useful time there, and I look forward to seeing more of your super work.

Thank you Fiona and Tessa, it was a great two weeks with like minded people and there is always something to learn and new subjects to paint.

As if I was part of the scene I'm looking at. Great technique.

After a week at Dedham Hall with Steve Hall and a week in Sidmouth with Amanda Hyatt I am exhausted. This was done at Dedham Hall in the studio from a photo on the only wet day we had. I will to post more but don’t want to flood the site as it limits the time that artists paintingsremain on the front pages of the gallery and therefore chance of there work being seen by those viewing the first few pages.

About the Artist
Barry Hulme

I started painting in 2004, I am influenced by Wesson, Seago and many of the great masters, more recently I enjoy the work of Steve Hall, John Hoar and Alvaro Castignet to name but a few. I paint in a loose style and try to simplify as I can. The medium I enjoy most is watercolour but dabble with…
