I’d be a bit more than ‘reasonable pleased’ if I’d painted this. I think it’s super. You’ve captured the mood perfectly.

Thank you Seth, I think levels of satisfaction are often measured against expectation and it’s not quite what I envisaged.

It's reassuring to hear an excellent artist like yourself expressing minor doubts about this excellent painting. (I'm like that, I get on my families nerves.) As has been said, you need have no reservations. This perfectly captures a wet gloomy day, the first thing I'll do when I need to paint a wet surface, is have a look at your paintings.

Thank you Lewis, I am sure it’s the self doubts that keep us honest and on our game.

I like the blue car gives a bit of symmetry with the domed roof.

I think this is just perfect, I too wish i could get this effect, Barry. It's so gloomy and atmospheric, and the blue car and it's reflection work a treat, along with the other touches of blue throughout the picture.

Thank you Brian, Thalia and Maureen, it appears that some of you like the blue.

Looks good to me Barry, lovely wet day! I love the texture of rough paper and I bet this looks even more lovely in real life.

I like using Fabriano rough, and I think it’s added texture to this lovely painting, Barry. And if it were mine I’d be thrilled.

Thank you Carole and Ellen, I hope nobody thinks I am critical of Fabriano rough as I do like it’s textue, I was just saying I could have made a better choice for this particular painting.

I know what you mean about measuring up to your own expectation, but this is a good ‘un Barry

Thank you Karen and Margaret, it helps when one gets lots of lovely comments.

I don’t claim to understand the difference in watercolour papers etc but this looks like a really good painting of a very wet day! Great atmosphere and skill Barry.

Caught my eye straight away. I like your blue car better than if it had been dark toned, just lifts the whole work.

You have the atmosphere so well! I have walked on so many streets that looked like that one. It’s very much a ‘Saturday afternoon’ isn’t it, but then back home for tea and crumpets beside a roaring fire. Just lovely.

Thank you Stella, I certainly didn’t want to stay out too long and tea and crumpets would definitely be favourite.

Well done Barry. Captured the gloom very well. Nothing wrong with self criticism, I do it all the time, drives my good lady mad!!!

Thank you Michael, I am sure there are many of us out there.

From Paris to Bath painted from one of my own photos on a miserable wet day. Realised too late that the blue car was very central and should probably be a dark tone rather than colour. I also used Fabriano rough which made working with the wet washes a little difficult, on reflection I should have used a not surface. However, I still managed to get the effect I wanted and am reasonably pleased with the result.

I started painting in 2004, I am influenced by Wesson, Seago and many of the great masters, more recently I enjoy the work of Steve Hall, John Hoar and Alvaro Castignet to name but a few. I paint in a loose style and try to simplify as I can. The medium I enjoy most is watercolour but dabble with…
