A lovely restful scene Barry, I’m sure it will make an excellent larger painting. Out of interest Do you generally do a small sketch version first?

Thank you Margaret and Tessa. I find I am doing small trial versions more and more Tessa. They are usually quarter imperial and often turn out so well that they end up getting framed especially when they turn out better than the larger version, which isn’t unusual. I find that doing this often helps resolves any issues I have with the subject.

Thank you Barry for the insight. I’m always intrigued to know how other artists plan and organise their work. Perhaps mostly a preliminary version is more spontaneous ? I’m sure this would stand alone and merit framing. Thanks again.

This is in preparation for a bigger painting done on SAA practice paper. I used two phots I took while out walking in Dedham Vale.
