Thank you Ibolya your comments are music to my ears.

I must agree with Ibolya, your use of colour here is so good also. The foreground couple have a good feeling of movement, briskly walking into the scene.

Nice painting Barry.Lovely light, colour and shading.

A lovely street scene Barry. Great light and shade. What is a "matchstick pen"?

Thanks Stephen, Peter and Adele your comments are lovely. Adele a matchstick pen is just a sharpened matchstick pushed into a piece of bamboo as a handle. It sharpened in a way that create several edges which allow variety of marks.

A great composition and lovely atmosphere. Well done.

Thank you Fred.

Your paintings are always so clean, bright and depict the scene so well.

Magnificent Barry!

Super picture, Barry.

Great painting of Bath. I like the light and shade and the figures give it a very lively air.

Showing some good drawing skills here Barry, this is a beauty and not an easy subject. Well done on your bonus feature article, excellent piece and I know how time consuming they can be, I've done around 6 or so for Dawn and I just love working on them.

Lovely work again Barry , I would have made the background even less detailed and more bluish it gives even more depth and atmosphere , Alvaro does it all the time , I hope you don't mind me saying so Barry your a super artist and I say it with good intentions . It's lovely now but a bit of tweaking it will be top notch up with the very best.

Does it for me!

Thanks to everyone for there comments. Alan it's really nice that you took the time to look at my article I also enjoyed doing it. Dennis please don't be worried about your comments I always appreciate constructive advice and feel you are right as you are confirming some of the thoughts I have creeping into my head. Always that dilemma when you know you have already done a good piece of work do I don't I !!!!

When we were Plein air painting in Bath a few weeks ago I painted a similar view and before I left I took a photo from a slightly different position which was not accessible with an easel. Drawn with a matchstick pen on Arches not paper.

About the Artist
Barry Hulme
