Painted plein air on a recent visit to Corham in Wiltshire on a rather dull day with occasional sunshine and as a result the shadows are a combination of memory and artistic licence. I used Arches 140 lb rough half imperial, I left some light in the distance and used the direction of the road to draw the eye to this area. My artistic licence was to exaggerate the light on the ends of the buildings by increasing the dark shadows on the fronts and road. Early on I took the opportunity to draw in the figures while they were in the scene. Took me just over an hour and I am generally pleased with the result but on reflection should have moved everything a few inches to the right but I know that would have made the left hand building more complicated. However, it is what it is and I enjoyed my day!
