Such a lovely style you have Anni. I cannot take my eyes off those pearls. Smashing.

Good Morning to you Jeanette (Just about to go to bed downhere in NZ). Thanks for looking and commenting. I was dreading painting the pearls. I bought a cheap necklace in an op shop on Saturday and used them today to copy from. It was remarkably easy to paint believe it or not. First of all I used a coloured pencil to draw the line of the thread, then I drew small circles for the beads. Carefully looking to see where the shading fell, I painted in the shadowed area on each small circle (in grey paint)...leaving a small circle of white canvas where the circle of highlight fell. I then proceeded to paint in the shadow underneath the necklace by mixing a darker tone. This made the necklace come to life. Quite a wee learning curve today. Hope your having a happy creative day Jeanette ~ Fond regards ~ Anni

Hi Anni, I love the colours and shapes in the cat and the eyes and ears. He/she stands out really well. Sweet dreams!

Hi Colleen, Almost on my way to the Land of Nod playing some Leonard Cohen on my pc. I hoard pieces of material, especially like those old chintzy Sanderson/Liberty fabrics. They come in useful for backgrounds to paintings. Night, night.Colleen. Fond regards Anni

Another winner I would say. Bold confident design. Postive colours. I loved your birds, and this is different but very sellable I would think. You are on a roll Anni, keep it up. x

Another beauty, so cheerful and positive. Pearls look expensive!

Just love the colours and the cat, must start collecting fabrics although having been in Liberty's last week so expensive and love the pearls too

Hi Angela, Thanks for looking again, it has been a busy week and I was painting against the clock with this one...not something I enjoy doing. I spent several hours constructing a strong cardboard box in which to send the 6 paintings. I loathe packing paintings grrrrrr!!!!! All done now and the package is waiting inside the back door for the courier man tomorrow, sigh of relief. ~ Anni oxo Hello Carole Thank you for your support. Yes, think I was trying to cheer myself up yesterday afternoon with these colours as it was a cold and gloomy day. Spring sprung a few weeks back but has now gone again and winter returned. Naaah these little pearls wer only one dollar from an op shop...no fresh water ones unfortunately. Fond regards ~ Anni Hello Norah, This was a smallish fabric sample I had in my box of many. I used to pick them up for a few dollars in furnishing shops. I can't afford much more than that. Many years ago when I lived in England I used to visit Liberty's fabric dept...so many scrumptious fabrics. As you say VERY expensive. I would come away with .25 of a metre. I do find that secondhand shops sometimes have old blouses in liberty print lawn, a good wayof getting some props for painting withour spending a fortune...keep an eye out in jumble sales/church fetes too. Fond regards ~ Anni

Beautiful !. Always amazes me that you can paint such lovely complicated backgrounds but they never overpower the main subject. Lovely.

Thanks Val for that lovely comment. I love doing the background as much as the main subject. Kind regards ~ Anni

This kitty is very like my own cat Sam (Samsara). I love the tawny, tobacco earth tones of tabbies aswell as their stripes and ring-like markings. I bought a one dollar string of pearls from the opportunity store to use as a still life prop for the pearls, to copy from. This is the last of six small canvases I am sending into a Small Packages exhibition. The exhibition is being held by the NZ Art Guild in November at the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand All canvases are the same size: 10×10 inch. Acrylic on canvas.
