Just Another Rock Formation - in progress

Hard to tell if you could improve it, not having seen the formation myself, but it certainly works - if in any doubt with these things, one tends to darken the darks and lighten the lights, and get as much texture as possible: but that's just a general observation - you have some very appealing colours here; I might be inclined to add a little more definition, but ... I also tend to overwork things, so going your own way is probably the best approach!

Thanks, Robert for that great feedback and your suggestions on possible improvements; love and God bless 🙂🙏🏻🕊

Hi Andrew. Agree with Robert on this - it's a lovely painting! One question I would ask in answer to your question is whether you are producing a study or a painting? If a study then the focus should be on capturing the nature and detail of the formation. If it's for a painting then the focus should be on presenting the image which works best from a compositional, value and colour perspective. So perhaps making the focus of the paiting be the thing that interests you the most i.e. the water feature? Whichever it is I love what you've done.

Thanks Guy, for your feedback, and it's a good question; maybe reflecting my ambivalence over which route I'm taking. My aim was to produce beautiful art rather than a painting of, which is real progress for me when I started off only painting what I could see; love and God bless 🙂🙏🏻🕊

Robert's given the best advice, love all the heathery colours.

Thanks, Coral; love and God bless 🙂❤️🙏🏻🕊

Thanks, Heather; love and God bless 🙂❤️🙏🏻🕊

A lovely painting and superb colour, leave it as it is it works well.

Thank you Paul for that lovely feedback; love and God bless 🙂🙏🕊😃☕️

Such an interesting geological feature. Love the colours and textures you have used Andrew. Perhaps more definition on top of the cliff would help to make the structure stand out, as at first glance it’s not easy to make out the cliff. Great work and I’m sure you’ll achieve a beautiful end result Andrew. God Bless 🌈🌈🌈😊😊

Thank you, dear Carole, for your lovely feedback and your really constructive comments, as always; much love and God bless 🙂❤️🙏🏻🕊xx

A beautiful setting to use as a painting Andy. The colours you have used add to the charm. I'm not sure if they are people standing in the middle of the painting, or the formation of he rocks. But you have definitely caught the essence of the scenery of the area. I can almost feel the texture of the rocks below my hands. Well done on a beautiful painting. 🤗♥️xxx

Thank you, dear Jacqueline, for that comprehensive and lovely feedback; much appreciated, my friend; much love and God bless 🙂❤️🙏🏻🕊xxx

Really like the colours.

Thank you, Sandra, for that lovely feedback and the like; love and God bless 🙂❤️🙏🏻🕊

I saw this wonderful rock formation, as I was walking along the cliffs near Hadrian's wall two days ago. I think I'm almost finished. What do you think? and is there anything I might do to improve it as a painting? Much love and God bless 🙂❤️🙏🏻🕊

I’ve always loved water, its movement, its colour, its power. I had the privilege of working as a hydrologist for nine years before ordination, necessarily but enjoyably observing the movement of water in full flow or even in floods. That was thirty years ago but my love for moving water has not…
