Having been entranced by Spello on a pilgrimage in the footsteps of St Francis, two years earlier, we returned to another of its amazing 13th-century villas, owned by a different family, and on the last day I offered to draw a portrait of the owner as a thank you, and sent her the portrait from home (she was delighted!)
