I can only agree with the others. The Thames is my favourite river. As a kid I spent at lot of time on one of its ‘beaches’ at Greenwich. This grimy old river was always crammed with interesting things…ships and boats, wildlife and intriguing flotsam. There you go Alan, your very familiar sketch brings all that to mind.

Incredibly informative with such economical brushwork Alan. Love the quiet drama.

Neutral tint was the pigment without which Rowland Hilder claimed he couldn't paint - and I don't think I've ever used it; I've used Payne's Grey instead; I'm sure that's the ONLY reason I'm not as good as he was..... Yes.... and then again.. Alan has of course used it well, in this pure watercolour doodle (by his standards: some of us would be happy to achieve this in a full painting). How has he got away with that splash on the left? It's because he just CAN.
