Beautifully done Alan.

Love ink and watercolour, Alan - this is beautiful with its rich colours.

Simply beautiful Alan

Lovely work Alan, reminds me of Roland Hilder's style.

A definite like from me Alan. Caught me right away...

Beautiful scenery, Alan. I love the colour palette.

Beautiful painting and lovely palette, Alan.

Another beautiful sketch from you Alan. Are the white lines (which add greatly to the painting) gouache and are they applied with a rigger?..I need to know these things LOL

This is gorgeous Alan, I love the colours.

Your sketches are such works of art Alan!

Many thanks, there are some lovely comments for a quick sketch and I love reading them all. Louise, yes indeed done with my favourite rigger brush, swept in rapidly and directly, the sails included. I actually use Pelikan Plaka, a casein based paint but gouache would be fine. All the initial drawing on all my sketches are swept in directly with a size 0 rigger without any pencil work, it just hinders you, (you will know that of course as you do the same), and I used FW acrylic ink Paynes Grey for all the initial line work.

Fantastic Alan. This is the way I would like to draw and paint. No art background for me but if I ever achieve anything approaching this I will be a very happy man. Wonderful.

Love your colour choices, Alan. The whispy trees and solid buildings set off the windmill superbly.

Never a truer word spoken, Alan. It IS a stunner. Must get around to painting this myself.

Thanks Alan..off to google Pelikan Plaka now :)

Small ink and waterclour sketch, 8 x 6in, painted on my own tinted paper which sets the tone and of course kills off the white paper. This is one of a fair few that I have painted on this famous and probably the most painted windmill in the UK, and why not, it's a stunner and set within glorious surroundings.
