The Blackhills under Snow.

A very powerful effect, Alan. bringing the darkness and threat of more snowfalls to the fore. It's bleak and even a little dangerous looking, and yet there is a beauty that I find compelling. Excellent work. Bri

Gives a real sense of the bleakness of winter. Excellent.

The mood is beautifully captured. Plenty of these heavy overcast days recently. Luckily down here, snow threatened but not delivered.

So very effective, Alan, superbly under stated. the shadows and overall foreboding sky are especially believable.

The sky is typical of more snow to come, it looks smashing Alan.

Not much interest, but my thanks to those of you who took the time to comment. I purposely left it a bit understated and resisted the temptation to highlight areas of snow, because you don't see that in these conditions.

Yes, I see that, Alan, and I thought it was the foundation and strength of the painting. It's almost impossible to resist a few highlights here and there, yet this piece carries drama and demands attention because of your restraint. An apprehension or foreboding emanates from the canvas. That's art for you. Bri

Great snowy scene, Alan.

A real feel of snow to come Alan.

Very atmospheric, Alan, you've really captured that brooding sky.

Yes I can feel this atmosphere Alan, heavy with snow 😨

I agree with the comments above. Very effective with the brooding sky, hint of more snow to come, and the general darker tone. Fortunately we don't see this here too often!

Oil on board 30 x 40cm. A fabulous local scene that I’ve attempted to capture on many occasions, and in many different seasons and moods. This is in the depths of winter, with the sky heavily laden with snow. Based on sketch book drawings.
