You're a star for stepping in at such short notice Alan! Great bonus feature as always!

This is so unusual Alan, in colour style and mediums. Very autumnal. Look forward to reading the article.

I love your imaginative use of colour Alan together with the mix of media the result is so vibrant and interesting. I look forward to reading how you put this all together.

A real feeling of autumn with this, I like it a lot.

Beautiful vibrant colours Alan, lovely scene.

Nice work Alan and much appreciated by the sound of it. A demonstration of your versatility, you seem to be able to turn your hand to so many mediums and styles.

Lovely autumnal colours and great use of mixed media Alan, looking forward to your article and how it's all been put together, 😀

Early autumn is my favourite time of year Alan, and you have captured it beautifully.....the warm light from the lower sun...just perfect!

I really love this Alan, very different to your seascapes. The colours are gorgeous, giving a lovely glow to the painting. I look forward to the newsletter.

Super vibrant painting, Alan Can't wait to read your article!

It is very striking - and I like it very much, Alan - look forward to reading your article.

Thanks guy's for some lovely comments, always appreciated.

Wow....fabulous colours in this one, Alan.

A lovely painting Alan and fascinating article which I’ve just read. I’ve not really tackled mixed media painting properly but you’ve made me think it might be a good thing to try especially with winter approaching! I really like your points about using the initial wash/background colour and drawing marks and letting them both show through in the finished article. I tend to do this my myself and it seems to appeal to the viewer. Good stuff all round!

Mixed media on mountboard, 10 x 14in. A local landmark drawn en plein air on Saturday morning and finished off later in the studio. It’s a feature for the e-newsletter which is going out this Thursday. Four stages in all, showing its development and how I go about building up a mixed media painting in layers. Mainly acrylic, inks, crayons and soft pastel, plus a few other oddments. As with much of my work, I have taken a scene and combined it with my own vision and inspiration, not simply copied nature – a camera does that so much better! The feature was put together at short notice, so I’ve had to keep the text rather brief. I hope that a few of you will find it interesting.
