I like this combination of watercolour and scribbles with your reed pen.

That reed pen is working well, Alan. Nothing silly or scribbled here, but a fine sketch, love the way you've done the reflections in the water.

Great use of that reed pen Alan. Good composition

Great effects with the reed pen and love the addition of the watercolour 😃

works well Alan I like it

You make it sound so casual! It’s very effective Alan and I had to check out exactly what a reed pen is and yes it’s fairly obvious- d’oh! Good work.

Very nice composition, this has turned out a really nice image.

This is really exciting, great use and definitely not scribbled! Really makes a striking cold scene. may i ask ... do you make your own reed pens? I'm going to try using the Gozitan bamboo...

This really is an eye catcher, Alan. Beautiful!

Thanks all, appreciated, I've only shown it because of me trying out these reed pens. Yes Thalia, I have just had some bulrushes sent to me by one of our members and have cut my own. There is a great article in the April edition of The Artist, gives some good info on making and using them. I've got bamboo pens here, but find the reed pens more flexible and suits my style of drawing better.

Good use of reed pen and washes, Alan.

Whatever you do Alan works out well, this being no exception.

Your reed pen seems to be working well Alan, this looks great and I like the addition of some colour.

That is so satisfying Alan. Great marks , great colours...

Well thank you Gudrun, Cesare, Marjorie, Margaret and Sylvia. I am often amazed, a simple sketch which takes absolutely no planning and little skill, gets more attention than my oils.

Lovely scene, caught my eye straight away, the reed pen work looks really interesting,

Lovely scribbley, scratchy and dotty sketch Alan, I love this kind of painting. Lots of life and interest.

Thanks Lesley and Fiona, appreciated.

A very effective painting and eye catching well done Alan

More silly scribblings with a reed pen, great for loose sketching. Splashed a bit of watercolour on this one. Drawn on a scrap of mountboard 6 x 8in.
