i wish I could spend 30 minutes so well Alan. Beautiful colour and composition as usual.

Lovely work Alan its a super painting one of my favourites well done.

A good piece Alan, super colouring. I could do a pastel like this in under half an hour, but oil no, so well done. Come to think of it I have always used pastels when out on location. The reason being they are so absolutely immediate.

Lovely, Alan. Full of drama. I read your article, and enjoyed it very much.

I so enjoyed your demonstration in the newsletter and the painting looks glorious here in the gallery.

Thanks everyone, appreciated as always. John, the secret is small canvas - big brushes and go for it. The reason that I opted to do this 30 minute or so demo was to highlight what we can all achieve in a short time, how often do we visit some place and come back and say ' we didn't stop long enough, there was no time to paint'.

There really wasn't any doubt about who painted this, before I ever saw the name - I should like to watch you paint, but by the nature of things that's not likely to happen.

Great painting. You are correct. There is always enough time to do something. By the time you ahve procrastinated something could have been done!

Thanks for the very interesting piece on the e letter Alan. Enjoyed reading your procedures. This is one of my very favourites of yours.

Lovely attractive painting Alan.

I see your point Alan. Using pastel out on location I have never come back without what I had needed. So I have never noticed the problem of not getting finishing. One of the most wonderful things about working outside is I always hold a vivid memory of all that I have done. Even years later. It’s a wonderful feeling, like being there again. I can see myself sitting there doing the work. This is only a personal point but people who go out and snap picture to paint indoor will never get the best out of there art. Why because art is all about going good observation work. Therefore you see what others don’t realise is there. Nothing wrong with photos for reference. But don’t copy them. Apologise for me rambling on. Lol.

great painting again, Alan wonderful sky.

Lovely work, suits the panoramic format, harmonious pallete.

Ps, thinking of working quickly, we had a demo by Harry Caunce, a Blackburn artist last night, he did a coastal scene in oils in under two hours, including questions. He used W &N alkyd oils, which are quick drying.

Very harmonious Alan - just fabulous !

Your signature colours Alan and gorgeous as always! I read the article too!

Another fine example of your talent Alan. A superb article and a superb painting to accompany it. What's next? Lol

Smashing painting Alan, wonderful colours, perspective and atmosphere.

Thanks once again for taking the time to comment, I always enjoy reading them.

It was very interesting to see how you approached this in the newsletter Alan so thanks for taking the time to do it, I'm sure it was appreciated by many of us. As always, great work.

Thanks Val, I hope a few of the members found it useful.

This is great - love the colours and the free marks - makes a super impressionistic painting.

I'm amazed that you created this in 30 minutes! Its a fantastic painting with great use of mark-making & colour.

Thanks Maureen and yes Clare, it can be done if you plan it out and have everything to hand.

You did a fantastic job at conveying the atmosphere and the changing weather by the sea - a beautiful painting.

I admire this painting Alan, for it's pure freshness and spontaneity. My stuff is planned quite meticulously by comparison but I suppose I am aiming for a different result. My Staffordshire friend David Wilkes (Also in the gallery) displays a similar talent to this but taking nothing away, this one is special!

Thanks Geoff, all rather embarrassing really, I wasn't at all sure about the end result but it just goes to show. I know of David's work, a fine painter as you are yourself.

Great image, i spent many a summer in Nefyn. I love the mood of the clouds, amazing.

Very good work Alan

Beautiful colour and composition.

Oil on board 12 x 25in, painted at Abersoch in July for the online newsletter titled '30 minute Oil Sketching'. A basic beach scene which was demonstrated in 5 stages up to this final stage all completed in a little over 30 minutes. An awful lot of effort goes into these WIP demonstrations as many of you will know, the text takes me very much longer than 30 minutes but I love doing them.
