Richard Bruce

Biography

I was a design teacher who finally realised it was time to take a bit of my own medicine, after years of encouraging students, I swallowed the pill with a rather nice Saumur-Champigny. We’ve moved to France to paint, make, draw, eat and sample fine red wine- la reve quoi ! My first job was as a graphic designer working in Wandsworth for a Michael Caine, for a charity, Tearfund. I rediscovered painting / sketching in The Lakes, then in my beloved France. I've exhibited in Tours, and in Dinan, won prizes, paid for a glass of rouge or two. My first drawing teacher, Max Eden at Southport Art College told us we were all 'bloody useless' after days on the beach and along Lord Street (a road that inspired Paris' design) learning about horizontal & vertical composition, we realised Max was right. I use his wisdom on every piece of work I create!! A river, a bridge, some trees, roll out on my bike. A french cafe, terrace, (petit creme), a beach - welcome to my happy places. (I have another, but that's private) Next time your Back in France, (been too long I'm glad to be back), come and join us in our 'Ferme des Arts'
