Thanks Fiona, I like the idea of passing a photo round for interpretation, I could do something similar for the painting group on Facebook. We do sometimes have “challenges” at the meetings where we all paint from seasonable items, especially at Christmas and it’s fascinating to see how the same subject is interpreted by different people and medium.
Two good ideas from Frank and Fiona.  I'm not with Facebook, I tried it briefly and didn't like it.  But times they are a changing.
I’m not on Facebook either Lew, we used ordinary email to send our efforts to one another. Frank you could also make things a little more interesting.....set a still life up of all white objects and all black objects, so every shade is a neutral or there abouts in the white object exercise and in the black object exercise you can’t use a tube black, so again they have to be mixed. The objects don’t need to be pretty or ornamental....it’s getting the shapes and tones that the exercise is about. Gesso painted fruits, kitchen roll, whites pots etc.  Black objects....Teflon frying pans, shoes/boots, bin liners, grapes etc. Have fun!
Thanks Fiona, looks like your mind is going into overdrive now! I remember doing the all white still life a few years ago at a watercolour workshop, we had the added complication when the tutor stated that we were not allowed to draw the setup first, only paint in negative shapes!
I did the white exercise at last weeks class, in oils, I found it easier than the black exercise! Our tutor wasn’t as hard on us, at least we could draw the composition first. If I think of any other ideas, I’ll let you know.....lol. Happy painting.
For Dawn’s postcard challenge.  Not a new one, but it is a postcard sized linocut. The badger, one of my favourite wild animals.

Nice one Jenny!
Thanks, Dawn!  It’s an interesting challenge - good to have these extra things to keep us busy and motivated at the moment.
Our art group meets on a Thursday. I haven’t heard anything about stopping but if the over 70s have to stay at home, that will rule out half of us. I may suggest we stop anyhow as I didn’t feel comfortable last week there.  My other half is over 70 and has chest problems and low immunity so he’s another vulnerable one. We’ve more or less stopped going out except for necessary food shopping. I did my first online shop yesterday, quite easy, due next Friday. My daughter did one today for London and hers is not due til 26th! So if you’re thinking of doing one, don’t leave it. We also have a garden that needs a good deal of tidying up and getting ready for the summer, so that will keep us busy. So we must try to keep calm and carry on painting! And with that in mind...   Hi Tessa, This gave me such a chuckle.  So you have your husband in a ball and chain at last.  Only teasing.  Keep strong.

There won't be any art group Sandi, The PM has ordered a complete lockdown, apart from certain vital services. He's made this perfectly clear in his daily bulletins, it's the law! - obviously there is still some confusion out there, so I hope this clarifies the situation. I’ve just been informed that this may have been copied and pasted from an earlier posting, when we could go out,  so ignore this!

I live in a close with 35 houses, over the years the street has changed, kids growing up etc, new people moving in. As in most streets the neighbourliness has change as well, people tending to keep to them selves and the older neighbours chatting when they see each other. Yesterday I was out in the front garden and noticed a young chap( 30 is) from over the road at my next door neighbours house , he walked away and came back a few minute later with a large tray of eggs. He then said to me “ hello sir, would you like some eggs”. I was quite taken back as it was very unexpected, I did not have any as we had enough, but did make a big effort of thanking him. When I told my wife she was surprised as well as both he and his wife have never spoken to any of us in three years. So I have to say that neighbourliness has not died, and could be making a come back. I will make sure that I make the effort to chat to him again. Some good does come out of bad situations.

I have the same experience. I am 87 and lost my wife of 60 years 18 months ago. Coping, just, but being very lonely. I also had to surrender my driving licence due to failing sight. I usually walk into town [2 miles] and get food stuffs delivered. In the last two weeks I have been overwhelmed by offers of help, shopping, lifts into town when needed. I must not forget Fiona Phipps who has been a great help and will eventually get me out painting again. Kevin Keeley, Louth
