Self-isolation is probably my default mode ;) I think most people involved in creative pursuits are used to having (needing) their own company for significant periods of time. Making a piece of art (and I imagine it's the same with songs, poetry, etc) is a bit like being on the outside looking in. Currently still taking a brisk morning walk around the block when no-one's about. The thought occured to keep a small corona sketchbook. Probably abstract expressive mixed media stuff, rather than attempt to record the rest of this year in text. Nothing "obsessive". Just a personal response to things as they unfold.
PaintersOnline and the magazines will still be here for you all - we are putting plans in place to work from home if necessary. We have, however, just taken the decision not to run our annual Art Club of the Year this year. For all the reasons you have been making above it seemed sensible to take this decision now as clearly many groups will have been closed until further notice. We have a great community here on PO and I know you will all be a great support to each other during these difficult times. Any ideas for keeping the community spirits up - let me know and I will see what can be done. I can't offer to provide loo rolls or anything but ...... Dawn
Thanks Dawn, shame about the loo rolls! I’m sure some good ideas will be forthcoming, and yes we are a very supportive community as are the PO team.
Thank you for that, Dawn.  Social media on the net is a mixed bag, but Painters-on-Line and its community is a shining beacon on how good it can be.  Friendliness is its keynote, plus advice, help, and encouragement from all sides...it's a great pleasure to be part of it.  We're all in uncharted waters right now, I'm so glad POL is around.
Well said Tessa and Lew I totally agree with you both.
I agree with Tessa and Lew :)
Wonderful positivity from pol staff and members as always......friendly support and encouragement from you all.  Thank you Dawn and I echo the above sentiments entirely.
Just had and email to say my sketch club will meet tomorrow for the last time until further notice, but the brief will be posted on line each week so we can still do art work and then email it to our organiser so it can be put on Instagram so it  won't be a total loss. Stay safe everyone.
Likewise Christopher, ours has finished until the autumn.😢
I was going to lead a spring colours workshop for the National Trust Volunteers at Hughenden Manor in early April, but like all NT houses it’s closing after Friday. Still plan to do it but not until everything is back to normal. It’s people on their own that I feel particularly sorry for, and those that don’t have anything to occupy themselves with.
One of your cakes would do nicely, Dawn....  I've seen your cakes.....  Very fond of a slice or three of creamy-weamy cakey-wakey........ I'm sure this group will be a lifeline for many of us, and grabbing what consolation I can from all of this, I now have much more time to read my book from Virgil Elliott's publishers, and to pull the brushes and paints out.  Indeed, I'm three quarters of the way through the book already, and am confident it will be a resource to which I'll return time and again (keep your eyes on book reviews).   And, whatever else might be going horribly wrong, the days are getting longer and the light is improving - the only things I forgot to buy on my last art shopping expedition were harder grade conté crayons, but - I've got everything else I need.  So, avast and belay, foul care!  Jones is on the warpath again....
So, I have had an idea for all artists who are struggling through this difficult time of self-isolation. I know we have the regular monthly challenges going on here on PaintersOnline, but here is something extra for you all to do - paint cheerful postcard-sized images and write a brief positive message on the back. Share the image and message here on the forum and/or in the gallery and then, if you are fortunate enough to be in an area where you have volunteers prepared to drop off shopping etc ask them to deliver your postcard to someone else in your locality who is having a hard time too. What do you think? I know you are a great bunch and I am sure we can spread a little goodwill and cheer with our art! Maybe, if your local art club has been suspended you could invite all the other members to join in too. We will also share images and messages on our social media sites to spread the cheer and Sally and Ingrid will feature some of our favourites in the magazines in the weeks ahead.
