Great workman Tessa, also like the girl looking out the window. Here is mine for today some one not looking forward to Christmas
Poor old turkey lurkey Alan, nicely done! I drove the hubby to a scan appointment this morning at a medical centre in Gloucester and drew some of the patients going in while I waited in the car.
Poor turkey lurkey Alan, he needs to turn that frown upside down, Lovely sketch Tessa of the patient's. Here are a couple I've just done.
Good sketches Alan , Tessa and Denise. I decided to do some sketches last evening as the light is getting bad early and painting is more difficult. This one is two railway worker operating the turntable amazing that lots were manually operated given the weight of the engines.8
Lots of good sketches here. The figure drawings are particularly fascinating. I’m attaching 2 that I did yesterday. I’ve spent this year trying to improve my figure drawing - I’ve now moved onto to faces as well. A small sketch or two a day really helps.
Some really good figure work here. You’re so right Paul that a little sketching every day noticeably improves your work. Margaret Nisbet started this daily sketch in January and I took it more seriously then and did try to do every day and did feel an improvement. I’ve let it slip more recently and feel the difference. During the first lockdown I usually had a tiny sketch pad in my pocket for the morning walk and it made me look for drawing subjects daily. Must get back into it!
Some great figure sketching everyone, like you Tessa I have let it slip and need to get back into it because I enjoy it when I get going. New pony taking up all my time!
Like you and others, Tessa, I did a sketch a day throughout Jan and Feb. After that " rigour", which I did enjoy, I began to find it more difficult because I wanted to start painting again and there wasn't time for both. No doubt that regular sketching improves skills. I look at it this way, if you are producing art regularly you will improve - you might never get to where you want to go but you will keep on learning . I'm not sure that many have the final answer - what do others think?
Totally agree. The Japanese have a word for it - “Kaizen”. Continuous improvement. Always seemed to me to be a good concept to follow whether your a professional or an amateur. I hope that every drawing, painting, etc. is better than the last.
Fantastic sketches Paul. And you are right on the button that continuous practice improves your work. I’ve been at a loose end this whole month and just can’t seem to get into anything. I started the month with the intention of doing more faces and got sidetracked trying to recover a previous painting that I was never happy with (still not). I still like to read this thread each day in the hope it’s going to give me that ‘virtual kick in the butt’.
Late in the day but here’s a quick sketch of the hubby watching tv! Poor light and photo but you get the gist I’m sure.

Great sketches everyone, my continuous improvement is stuck a bit like Ron.  Not sure why this happens as my interest is still there but the actual settling to sketch or paint is not.  Just finished watching on catch up The Big Painting Challenge(2015) and also the series Great Art so getting my inspiration fix but practically I’m doing nothing.  I too look at the forum everyday and the Gallery...........
