That’s a really good first attempt Janis, I don’t see it as having been done by some heavy handed . Do a subject you know well and feel comfortable with, you will be surprised how soon you get used to watercolours. It’s fun just experimenting and ax long as you are enjoying it then that’s a win situation.
Hi Janis! Welcome! There are no rules at all, it’s basically a way to encourage sketching, drawing in any medium everyday to improve our artwork or learn new techniques. I think for a first attempt you have done a lovely painting! Also you enjoyed doing it which is great. Look forward to seeing more!!
There have been some very good sketches  lately, struggling to keep up because I’m busy doing pony stuff😊🐴 I like your derwent graphite sketch Janis, (welcome) something I like using too. They are the main ingredient of the following holiday sketches of the old pontoon, Lochawe, Peartree Island on the River Nene and River Alde courtesy of my brother.
They are super Katy looks a beautiful area!  I have just finished another abandoned building theres a lot of them here sadly but they are perfect for drawing/painting
I love your cottage drawings and paintings Gillian 😊
These are lovely scenes Katy.
Lovely sketches Katy and Gillian, smashing sketch of the Cortijo.
My sketch this evening.
Ugly fella isn’t he?  That’s why it’s a great sketch Denise, he is full of character
Smashing sketch Denise, what did you use? I do like white on black. Not sure if I have posted this before, my old pony Magpie ❤️😥
Thats lovely katy, I use a white charcoal pencil on black paper then reduce some of the details with a fine eraser.
Lovely picture Katy! Agree with you regarding white on black! I enjoy drawing animals with soft pastels pencils on black paper the effects you can get are quite stunning.
