Of track , Alan I have emailed Lew but I haven’t received anything back as yet , most unusual as he normally responds quickly.
I’ll bring this back up again before it gets lost - I’ve gone to some lengths to reply to Robert’s narrative, so I’ll add the photo again to get his attention… The Ackerman fountain pen.
Alan, I remember your recommendation, and it's the price that deterred me from trying the Ackerman - I'll drop a hint when my 76th birthday comes around in November... I was hoping for something cheap - very much my way...  or at least, not in second mortgage territory.  But the pen sounds ideal, so perhaps a gritting of those teeth I still have and a firm decision is in order.
I intend to get permanent ink.as I think the results with watercolours will work  well.  This is my latest sketch
Good sketch Martin.
I think the pen gives this an old fashioned look.  Hopefully not a dated one?
I rather like dated......  I'll leave you to guess why that might be.   In any event - this prompts me to the thought that some of the most  interesting works in history were accomplished in pen and ink  = Tiepolo, Leonardo, not to mention the excellent pen and ink artist who illustrated the Billy Bunter books....
It’s probably my favourite medium, oils being a close second. It’s so versatile, you can sketch anywhere without having to carry around loads of stuff, so to speak - a pen and pad, and you’re all set…
Now have the correct ink. So it's all systems go.👍
Looks good Martin . When I was away this weekend I picked up some Caramel Brown ink , more a writing ink than drawing but love the colour, not totally waterproof but I like the idea of adding a bit of water . This was a very quick test sketch I did last night  just to try it our a5 watercolour paper.
interesting, and could produce some nice effects.

I think it will , especially on a beige / tan paper  it will have a antique look as I think the brown ink already looks antique.
