The ‘Deeper Portraiture’ collection focuses on representing the mental health issues, instability and wounds hidden within people. Each portrait is painted not only using the subjects face but also by allowing their life experiences to melt through the image, consequently creating a collection of dark, painful portraits. What was Sober is a discussion in paint about the self destructive decisions people suffering with mental conditions of which they have little understanding suffer from. It is an explosive piece of abstract portraiture purposefully capturing the innermost thoughts and feelings of the subject rather than the outer appearance of the subject themselves.
