The reference photo for this painting showed the "Maria Luisa" sedately and safely moored to the wharf. Somehow it didn't seem right for this working vessel. It was almost as if she was saying "I can't wait to be free of these mooring lines and get out into the open sea ... that's where I come alive". So, I have painted her on an angle, rising through turbulent waters under a moody sky. The painting is almost monochromatic using blues, a touch of cobalt teal blue and just a hint of warmer violet. A touch of neutral green and raw umber blends into the hanging sky. Painted on Arches 300gsm rough.
