Love this Wib , its so delicately painted and beautiful. I am a big fan of bee's , they are wonderful creatures on which we really do depend. We need to treat them better.

Fantastic detail Wib, such dazzling colour I would love to know the palette. I rescued a little bee yesterday asleep on the windowsill, gently scooped him onto a paper and put him on a Rose of Sharon flower he seemed delighted with the pollen-full stamens.

Very beautiful painting, Wib, great details and wonderful colours.

Thank you ever so much, Dennis, Carole and Cesare - I truly appreciate your comments!

Is this smasher a watercolour Wib? What is that wonderful pink colour?

Thanks Louise. Most of my work is digital painting although my workflow is very similar to traditional painting. This particular painting is digital acrylic. I took the pinkish red from my reference and mixed it with a little white to create the pink in this image.

I'm a great supporter of the humble, bumble bee Wib and this is a treasure.

Thanks Fiona.

This is wonderful Wib, so many great colours on one little bee, fantastic.

Beautiful Wib...fantastic colours...

Thank you Margaret and Sylvia - I appreciate it.

We have the same problems here too Wib. Lovely vibrant painting.

Thanks Adele - hopefully increased awareness and the desired to so something about this issue will in a good thing for the bees.

Lovely blur of hot colours around the bee and flower head Wib. Interesting to read how you painted this digitally. You must have plenty of patience :)

Thanks Sarah. The basic difference between my style of digital painting and traditional painting is that my brushes are loaded with light instead of pigment. I know this is a bit of an oversimplification but that's essentially it.

This painting is more of a study than it is finished. Here in North America our bee population is under considerable stress. Thousands of bee colonies have to be imported from other parts of the country to insure there are enough bees to pollinate certain crops and then are moved to another location. Many current agricultural practices have unfortunately been detrimental to encouraging a healthy and thriving bee population – hopefully with increased awareness of this serious problem steps can be taken to rebuild a vibrant bee population.
