Very good job you've done too. What glaring errors ?

Thanks Carole. I suppose as a piece of fantasy art I can get away with some of the stuff. I was looking at it this morning and I noticed the scabbard is slightly off kilter. The mountains in the background could have done with a little more detail to them. Of course this months Leisure Painter has an article on painting a snow capped mountain ridge. lol I suppose they are just niggly little things, but I suppose if I ever do a painting that I'm completely happy with I'll put my brushes away for good.

Hi Bob, Thanks for posting the stages of your warrior cat painting....i love to see how different people approach painting, I don't think i work too differently from you with acrylics as i also like to block in my main colour masses first then refine with over painting. With oils i tend to work very differently in more the Alla Prima method ... This painting would make a great illustration for a fantasy novel....regards....Steve

Thanks Steve. I think blocking in the main colour masses really (for me anyway) gets rid of that great expanse of white canvas and I can relax and paint then. I know what you mean about oils though. I tend to use acrylics more like watercolour and build up the colours with washes. I haven't used oils for a while as the odour causes me to get headahces (never happened a few years ago) so I am going to invest in some of the odourless variety and give them a go.

I finally finished the painting. Yes, I can see some glaring errors in it, but I know that if I start twiddling with it I'll overwork it and it will be ruined. Only other option is to re-do it. Arrrggghhh. No way. This is as good as it gets (for now)
