Wonderfully atpospheric Val-Irene

Excellent drama going on here!

Beautifully atmospheric, love the rich colours

Super Val-Irene.

So Turneresque and the light on the horizon is the icing on the cake.

Full of drama and depth of colour Val-Irene.......beautiful.

That darks and lights combination all works really well Val-Irene. Nice job...

Lovely atmospheric work.

You can glaze with acrylics - and people say they're easier than oils.... only if you don't know what you're doing with either! I think (and I find!) that achieving a result like this in acrylic is extremely difficult - the paint just doesn't work this way. Here indeed is where oil paint comes into its own - which is a long-winded way of saying I agree with you: building up with oil glazes (difficult enough, God knows) gives you a softness and luminosity that I really don't think you can get with any other medium.

Incredibly atmospheric Val, so much luminosity and rich in colour. I have recently invested in Cobra water soluble oils, i hope in time i can achieve such wonderful results as yourself.

Thank you all for you comments. Yes I agree Robert - acrylics can achieve some degree of depth with glazes but I am just a fan of oils. My daughter uses acrylics so well but in a very different way to the way I use oils. I just love the blending. thanks again all of you.

Nice painting Val, super colouring

Thank you all very much. Christopher, I have been painting for many years and have taught art on and off and I have developed a favourite way of painting. - I like the water based oils for environmental reasons as I do not like and now do not use turps. I use a mix of linseed oil or poppy oil with gamsol or zest. Good luck with the water based oils - they dry quicker and you can use glazes. I prefer them to acrylics. I have also used egg tempera - good as an underpainting.

Very Turneresque and softly atmospheric

Thankyou for the extra advice Val, i have cobra painting medium but will get a bottle of Linseed oil to go with them. Chris

Really striking Val -Irene

I am still catching those evening sunsets. I know it's so similar to others but I get a bit stuck on a theme sometimes. Can't resist it especially when I work on it with glazes in oils to get that richness in colour. I have tried all sorts of media and still think the only way to achieve the look I want is to build up layers of oil glazes.
