Very well done Martin.

Captured beautifully Martin. They remind me off when I have been out painting gardens

A wonderful painting Martin. I am familiar with these huge leaves as we have some in a garden near me. Good old David by the way!

Love the detail on those leaves.

Superb pastel work Martin, and great to hear of the David Curtis link with your art group. How lucky are you!

Super painting ... I like gunnera leaves too!

Very interesting piece!

Very effective piece Martin

A superb piece very skilfully done.

How wonderful to have that link with David Curtis, and what a brilliant idea for your art group. A superb study of the Gunnera Martin, love the way you have captured the underneath ribs of the leaves with light. It’s nick name is the Dinosaur plant, reputed to be at least 100 million years old.

This is so beautiful

Thank you all for your encouraging responses. Really appreciated. I used to see some Gunnera on a canal walk years ago but they are not there now and I suspect they were actively removed as they are not native and can spread madly under the right conditions to the detriment of native species

I have to add that I’m so glad that some survive in private gardens as these dinosaur plants are a bit special to a dreamer

Pastel plein air sketch from Sunday in the garden of local Artist David Curtis who sportingly invites Doncaster Art Club of which he is President, to his village each year and persuades some residents to open their gardens to paint in. I was fascinated by these huge plants and the sunlight through their leaves. 9.5x12.5” Pastel mat
