A fine piece, right up my tree-trunk!

A magnificent oak!

That is superb, Martin. Just love the detail of the oak and the subtle colours you have used.

What a great shape tree! And so well drawn Martin!

Very well observed Martin. Beautiful structure.

Love your subtle colours Martin. Interesting the palettes we choose....

A great tree well drawn.

I really like the way you’ve created this Martin, has a feel of chilly winter about it.

Just so beautiful Martin!

This is just wonderful Martin……not only the star of the painting but I love the way you have painted the background trees. They look like a plantation of closely growing firs with their dark and forbidding canopy and forest floor.

Thanks for your kind responses everyone. I was first attracted to the bright green mosses on some of the branches and not others. The palette then developed itself drawn from the colours I could see but simplified and filtered artistically speaking. You are right about the background firs Fiona. There are more shrubs and small trees in the foreground which you have to peer through to see the oak but I left them out as they didn’t add anything to the image

Superb picture Martin 🙂

A very triumphant Oak if ever I saw one.

Beautifully done Martin.

Very good feeling of depth in this well drawn and painted tree. Nice texture also.

I love the depth of the tree against the muted background.

Oh my, what patience you have to so beautifully draw those limbs. Your choice of a soft, earthy "pink" to complement the green is perfect. I feel like kneeling before that majestic tree.

A magnificent Oak tree and it expresses vigour and stealth!

Thanks for having a look and commenting so positively. Very kind. It is a wonderful tree but easy to miss as it’s set back and behind a fence and younger trees etc. I always stop for a minute to say hello and admire

Beautifully observed and painted.

Thanks David and Hilary. Appreciate your input

what a fantastic tree and really well painted Martin. Lovely palette and markings.
