Autumn on the Avenue

I don't know what could have been overdone regarding this interesting painting... It tells story well, nicely matching colours, rushed leaves folling down... Very nice!

I don't think it's overworked. Has a great sense of depth and very inviting.

I think you've got it just right, I love it.

A beautiful painting, Martin - do not think you have overdone the foreground foliage - it complements the painting beautifully!

Lovely effects Martin.

This is lovely Martin. I agree with Michael and think a couple of shadows on the stark white would make this painting amazing.

It’s super Martin! Love the effect in the foliage of the background trees and overlayed detail of the twigs and leaves.

Lovely trees beautifully painted!

Beautiful. I think you’ve got it spot on but the addition of a couple of shadows would enhance it even further!

Love the splattering, doesn’t look overworked.

A really good painting the foliage is excellent, agree that a few shadows on the road would add to the finish.

Thanks for your supportive comments everyone. I take your point about shadows on the road. The light was unusual, was over the hill and bright but hazy. I based the painting on 2 photos in which the road was completely white. I thought it looked slightly unreal but I liked it. I did put a light graded wash on. I think I’ll do another with invented shadows. Thanks again

Very nice work Martin, like the loose way you have used spatter to indicate the leaves of the trees and the dead leaves on the ground. I agree a little colour on the pathway would help. Perhaps a distant figure just coming over the brow of the hill?

I’ve used heavy spattering as a bit of an experiment on this watercolour. Relatively pleased but may have overworked the foreground foliage. 14 x 11” approx on Moulin de Roy rough
