Great sketch Thea and with all those subjects down there you will provide us with a lot of lovely work I am sure. This is just my soft of subject too.

Super 'on site' watercolour sketch Thea. These bring back lots of memories don't they? I'm off to Lanzarote next week and will try to do a few sketches.

Thank you Derek and Stephen for your encouraging comments. Derek, there are so many super scenes in Norfolk but all my sketches had to be done 'on the run' as I had a dog and husband in tow most of the time. I would love to have had two or three complete days to wander about and just sketch as the whim took me. We are going back in September, so perhaps then? Stephen, Lanzarote should provide lots of opportunities for sketching, both the scenery and people going about their holidays - always good fodder! I haven't done much sketching at all, so am rather a novice at it, but I am finding it an interesting alternative to the camera.

This is just great Thea, and to think yours will be the last picture of it.

Thank you, Karyl. Such is the laid back nature of Norfolk people, no-one seemed to be taking too much notice of the boat's impending seizure. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was still there when we go back in September for another little break. I'll let you know!

Super sketch here Thea! I like the way that the boat spreads across both pages of the sketch book and dominates the scene. It almost has a personality and is smiling because it knows it'll be there for some time! Good colour and a good reminder of your holiday.

I am inspired by your sketch to sketch more than I do, I'm always out with the camera, or the phone camera.

Such a great way to remember a holiday, dare I say it ? Much better than a photograph! Good colours and I too like the way it dominates the pages!

Thank you very much Louise, Sandra and Debs. I must say I like the oblong format across both pages and my little sketchbook is very well suited to that. Also agree that sketching provides a lively memory of a holiday, more so than a photo I think (although my photographer husband wouldn't necessarily agree!).

Brilliant sketch Thea, it looks like a printed book because it is spread across both pages.

Better than a photo I think Thea, you will get much more enjoyment flicking through your sketch in the future, rather than a photo album. Great sketch!

Great sketch, a perfect composition and colors, looking forward to seeing more. Speaking as a photographer you probably made this sketch quicker than I would have taking the photo and made a better job.

Stunning sketch Thea, love it!

A great sketch Thea! Love the subject, the composition and the gentle colours that you have used.

I also keep a diary in which I jot down what I've done and include sketches of the day - a great way to record holidays and days out without the need for loads of paraphernalia. This is a great sketch and reminder of your day.

Thank you very much Joseph, Fiona, Kevin, Petra, Satu and Michael for such nice compliments - lovely to receive and does much for my confidence. Kevin, I had to do the sketch fast and standing up as there was nowhere to sit. The wind kept buffeting my sketchbook (which is my excuse for the wobbly lines, lol!) It is fun trying to get something down on paper quickly as there is no time to worry too much about anything and I wish I could learn to apply the same principles to my normal painting.

I love this Thea! The relaxed drawing and of course the palette! Rust and blue! Maybe being "pushed for time" stops fiddling, anyway the result is great.

Thank you very much, Avril. If anyone would appreciate a bit of rust, it is you, lol! Agree about the fiddling - no time and no real desire either as I think the sketches have to be your first reaction to the subject and not a considered piece of work, as with a 'proper' painting.

Great sketch Thea, and a great find.

This is fabulous. I love the light. and the colours.

Lovely landscape Thea - a format so well suited to maritime subjects. And how considerate of you not to post them all at once (others take note); that way we have more incentive to go online! There's an endearing quirkiness to this subject which you've rendered in just the right sort of irreverential terms: clearly distressed but neither overstated nor self-indulgent. Keep 'em coming.

A brilliant little sketch Thea, you've made me feel so sorry for that poor unloved wreck of a boat :)

Thank you very much Carole, Dawn, Kim and Val for all your interesting and very nice comments.

Beautiful capturing of this old boat Thea, you made a splendid job of painting it, I wonder what has happened to it! if is still there or been 'clamped' !

Thank you so much Ros and Kirstie for your lovely comments. I am not sure what will happen to the boat as the 21 days notice was up fairly soon. Kirstie, I know that mobile art gallery but there is nothing on the car park now as a lot was washed away in the recent bad weather. Even the mobile cafe that does crab sandwiches seems to have disappeared as well. The boat in my sketch was actually tossed up onto the street outside the Blackeney Hotel by a storm one night and the flooding was terrible apparently. The causeway that you can walk on down towards Blakeney Point was partly washed away as well. It is all returning to normal now but the villagers have been through a bad time.

Kirstie, I was lucky with this boat as the others at Blakeney tend to be well cared for with not a lot of rust on view. It really stood out as a good subject for a sketch. I didn't have time to sketch the windmill at Cley, but I took some photos from a more unusual angle than the normal view of it and will try a sketch later on. I just wish there had been more time to go out and just wander about at will, sketching and painting, but it wasn't really fair on Roger and the dog to do that. We are going back in September to stay in a cottage in Salthouse, just down the road from Blakeney. The cottage has lovely sea views this time, so perhaps I can just sit on the deck and sketch and paint what is in front of me without inconveniencing anyone.

Absolutely brilliant, Thea! This has to be one of my favorites - beautiful palette, atmosphere and translucence of washes. Stunning!

I have been away on the North Norfolk coast for a few days and while I was there I did some plein air sketching to try and capture some of the local colour. We stayed in Blakeney and down on the quay I found this rusty and rather sad looking boat which had a notice on its side warning that unless it was removed forthwith, it would be seized and sold. Very militant of the harbour master I thought! (This is the first of a few sketches I did and I will post them gradually so as not to flood the gallery with my holiday 'snaps'). Pen and wash in my sketchbook.
